3Shareef (Sharīf in arabo) è un termine arabo che significa letteralmente "illustre, nobile", anche se tale "nobiltà" non potrà che essere morale, vista l'insussistenza nel mondo islamico di un feudalesimo d'impronta europea. Lo sceriffo a cui si riferiscono i Clash è l’ayatollah Khomeini.

4Minareto è la torre, presente in quasi tutte le moschee, dalla quale il muezzin cinque volte al giorno chiama alla preghiera i devoti di Allāh.

ad ispirare le liriche di Strummer sembra essere stata la notizia che l'Ayatollah Khomeini in Iran aveva messo al bando l'ascolto della musica rock, considerata pericolosa per le nuove generazioni.
